Amazon Grace
2nd June 2025
I received a parcel from Amazon addressed to somebody else. The address was almost identical to mine—apart for the street, the town, the district, and the post code. Apart from those, identical!
After navigating the labyrinth of Customer Support options, I ended up chatting with a bot. I explained what happened; it told me to keep the items. That didn’t sit well with me. These bots have no souls, and I don’t trust them to make moral decisions.
I waited for a human. Once they joined, I explained the problem again. They apologised and asked for the tracking number.
I provided it.
They told me to wait a moment.
A moment, as defined by Amazon Customer Service, is four minutes and twenty-three seconds.
I got worried and asked, ‘Do I need to provide any more information?’
A little while later, they came back, apologised again, told me to keep the items, and said they were responsible for the recipient.
That didn’t sit well with me. These customer service reps have no souls, and I don’t trust them to make moral decisions. So, to clarify, I asked, ‘Does that mean they’ll get their items?’
They replied, ‘Oh, we’ll take care of them…’
A little ominous.
I hope I haven’t accidentally put a hit on them.
Anyway, I opened the parcel. It contained assorted drill bits in a sturdy case, wall plugs, and assorted screws with wall plugs! Just what I always wanted!!
Now all I need is a drill.
